Your Name:
Preesa Adeline Bullington

Role in this Production:
Costume Designer and Stage Manager

How long have you been designing/stage managing?
Costume Designing for about 8 years, Stage Managing for 5 years.

How long have you been in NYC?
Almost a year.

Where are you from originally?
Seattle, WA.

What's been your favorite project, to date?
Can't choose, but favorite project recently has to have been Big Green Theatre Festival with Superhero Clubhouse and The Bushwick Starr. I got to design for plays written by 5th graders about environmental issues and performed and directed by theatre professionals. Children should always write children's theatre - they are brilliant and hilarious!

What do you like about being involved with The Seeing Place?
The ensemble part: geating to be more invested and a part of a bigger picture.

What's a fun story about an experience you've had in your field?
A few friends of mine had a blog for awhile called "stuff i've carried across town." They started it because the stories were too numerous and ridiculous to not document. They often asked me to be a guest writer sharing stories about walking 3 blocks then getting on the bus across town while carry 2 giant bags full of costumes and wearing a giant headdress s(because it was the only way I could carry it), etc. (Sometimes it's fun to be the "crazy" person.) I'm sure some people now have a lovely story they like to tell about the crazy girl wearing the giant headdress on the bus.

What's your previous experience with these two plays (THE LOVER and DANNY....)?
A good friend of mine, Paula Bennett, directed a production of The Lover and I have fond memories of that. I also had a project in college in which we had to have "a literary affair" with a playwright where we had to learn all about them (read plays, etc) and then journal about it. I had a literary affair with Pinter and remember writing in my journal about The Lover.

What's been the most challenging thing about preparing for these projects?
Finding the necessary time to do the quality of work I know I can do.

What excites you about The Summer Series?
I'm so excited to watch how these plays and actors grow from start to the final performance, and I can't wait to see how our free reading series pans out.

  2. You'll have to tell me about that production of THE LOVER at some point. It's so wonderful to have you involved. It's a rare thing to have designers and actors collaborating together in an ensemble. And your commitment is inspiring to me. Thank you.

    1. I agree! It's so nice to see everyone working together to achieve this common goal. Often, the actors are kept separate from the design team and I love how much I'm learning from each designer's skill set. Thanks for a great interview, Preesa!
